foreign par for the course is another bloody bloody ass Monday how you doing Brett dude this morning it was like real bad um now that it’s what 11 o’clock our time so we’re kind of a little bit behind schedule um it’s not as bad but it’s still red across the board and I think a lot of that you can attribute to the dollar strength I mean the stock market’s red the dollar is up you know pretty significantly and last week I think that’s what drove the Commodities hard was you know the dollar got crushed out the gate to you know begin the week yeah it was you know there was some good upside but that a lot of that upside got wiped out the last few days and today so whatever it looked like at some point in the last couple weeks is we dipped under 360. at one point right did we bounced back up I haven’t you know what’s in that range around 36. yeah I think it’s in that area on Friday it was back in the 350s oh yep yeah bounce back a little bit um nickel down again yeah
but nickel I had a huge gains nickel had a run man of all runs but you didn’t really see it on the scrap end like because I think everybody like you see these big Commodities like pricing pushes but like you don’t they don’t really translate all the way over to the scrap side unless like say you’re selling copper chops and you have it at say for whatever for discussion purposes let’s say you have it at you know number one chops minus 15. that’s such a premium product you you can have a structure set up yeah you because you said it so it’s like your comex or December comex or whatever and you say okay if it’s 350 today and you take 15 cents off and you gotta deliver it or whatever that is all of a sudden now you know if the price goes up 25 cents that discount’s already been negotiated so but you just don’t see that translation into like a number one a number two copper because your consumers are are are slow to adjust those spreads so like if the if the price moves up dramatically then you don’t you
don’t get to really realize a 20 cent comex move you might get like five of it you might maybe a little bit more maybe you get 10 of it but you’re not getting all 20 of that then there’s variables like when people don’t even want to buy stainless you know when people aren’t even buying you know it might be worth 10 10 bucks 10 nickel but if no one’s buying it does it even matter you know so you gotta you’re just surprising I think in the scrap business I think what peop what gets lost on people is your consumer base is super important which is why I’m so adamant about hey I love to see people win that are doing things the right way but I’m so adamant about calling out the good players in our industry right like I make it a point if I’m doing business with somebody I want other people to know like I’ve been doing business with this individual or this company and they’ve treated me well because I think I want winners to win like there’s no secrets in this game like the price is the price you
know within a few cents it is what it is but can you forge those relationships and you can you do you have people that treat you well because going back to what you just said consumers do you have people willing to consume your scrap when the market is there isn’t a lot out there right but if you have the relationship and you’ve treated people right you’ve delivered the product that you have you know agreed to deliver those relationships those relationships Run Deep because it’s a two-way street it’s a very two-way street and I I I want people to know who the good players are I want people to know that if they buy scrap from United Metals it’s what I told you is going to be I’m not trying to you I’m not trying to you know pull one over on you and if it ain’t what I told you I’m gonna be the first one to make it right for that reason because I know how it is to be in 2009 and nobody wants to buy your that’s a real deal and and I don’t think people that started been
in the scrap business for the last say five to eight years know that feeling when you’re making a product that used to have good value and used to have 10 consumers has one or two now and that’s why it’s so important for whatever scrapyard you’re at whatever if you work at a scrap yard you gotta make sure your buyers are buying the product right they’re communicating with the production team the production teams communicating with the trader like yourself yes the trades and materials so they know the specs of you know this can go on this one this one can go in this one it needs to be on pallets it needs to be on you know done it’s like there’s all those variables and that’s why like everything always breaks back down to either the relationship with your own guys and the communication yeah and also the relationship with the person he sold it to the consumer and your relationship there because you know we’re no one’s ever going to be perfect there’s going to be hiccups in the road and I’ve seen you with our consumers you know the good ones they always
find a solution yeah you know they’re not as good ones probably just be like ah you know Screw you take it back you know there’s and you know it’s not really like they’re bad for that no but they’re not willing to go the extra mile which you know in the long-term relationship that does matter I’m very picky who I sell scrap to because I’m always looking for that relationship right I want to have a couple good couple good quality consumers for every item we produce I don’t need 10 consumers I need like three or four at the max right and then I want to do business with those people consistently I want them to want our material and I want to treat them with respect and I want that reciprocated so that’s needs to be your focus at any at any level is you need to have some good homes for your material and treat those people treat your consumers as well or better than you would even treat your customer I mean it really goes your people your customer your consumer and the gap of in between isn’t very far like it’s
almost a circle they all matter the same they all matter the same they’re all big pieces of that puzzle yeah people forget about the consumer because they’re like oh well there’s always gonna be someone that wants to buy copper maybe there will be people with one by copper just not from you yeah and that’s what you have to remember that’s why I see our production guys just working their ass off it’s cold as hell here in Idaho right now and they’re still out there again the bundles ready and they make awesome truckloads man they’re so beautiful you post them all the time yeah and we post them for so we keep ourselves liable we keep ourselves uh you know honest and we can show people like these are good loads of were shipping out you know and then we show like people in the scrap community that enjoy seeing that like it starts the conversation if you ever if you do see something that’s a little different that you’ve never thought of there is always something you can pick up from other scrap yards 100 yeah well thanksgiving’s coming up absolutely I hope everybody
enjoys their time with their friends and family our yards will be closed Thursday and Friday and the the Boise yard who’s open Saturday will be closed Saturday will be reopened Monday and uh it’s a well-deserved break for our guys and I hope everyone enjoys their holiday Happy Thanksgiving everybody enjoy enjoy the holiday to family and your friends and your dogs and your cats and whatever other animal you got have a great one thank you
