all right welcome everybody first metal monday after israel how you doing today brett i’m good i’m doing much better than i was uh friday morning or saturday yeah i’m uh i’m back on back to feeling normal yep good get some good solid sleep at night it was really good to do an event with no mask first of all do event in person yes a lot of people since we really been hitting this uh social media really hard marketing i’ve met a lot of awesome people yeah but i haven’t met him in person till this weekend yeah or last night weekend but last week and that was really cool like to see a lot of those people which you know from all the different zoom calls and phone calls and clubhouses i felt like i truly already knew him and then even after i met him i did so that’s really what’s cool with social media technology and connecting and it’s the networking is it’s so much easier to do even if you don’t attend to israel you know it’s not yeah and i think yeah i was telling i was telling this to

my dad last night i had dinner with my mom my dad it was my grandpa’s uh 90 first birthday night so we cooked up some ribs and um and made some made some dinner made an early dinner because when you’re 91 you eat it like 4 p.m yeah so yeah he can he can do it every time he wants to make it that far exactly exactly but i was asking about the show and asking me what i thought and i was like you know the attendance people-wise i thought was um was pretty was good i mean i think they said they had set like close to a record attendance or whatever and but i thought the trade show portion of it like the actual boots and equipment and all that was like less than stellar but just my personal opinion um you know i think a lot of the equipment guys have nothing to sell it’s either sold out yeah you know so far out or to 2023 or 2024 there’s no real show specials or anything like that that you know in the past which is a good thing i think

for the industry that means that the market is strong for the equipment the market is strong for for that but but the networking part of it i thought was really good as far as being able to see people we haven’t seen a long time or see people that we’ve just been talking to via zoom calls and be able to actually like shake their hand say hi and you know go have a cocktail and a beer and you know really i mean should there’s people that we’ve done business with that never even met in person you know like and significant business you know and so that part of it was cool and i think that’s the real value of an event like that is the networking part i mean i think you know there’s there’s something pretty cool on the that’s coming up on the horizon with uh recycling today and jim keith and we’re going to get him get him on on a podcast here soon to talk about his event coming up in uh louisville in september so we’re excited about that and that’ll be more hands-on equipment like versus you know

um in vegas and dinners and fancy bars and not as much my style as like just hanging around scrap yards and describe people yeah it’s more about that than the networking and 100 and then networking is important too but it will be nice to go to a show that’s a little different i’ve only been to really to speak of is israel and sema for our converter business it seems a whole different monster that’s a whole different podcast but yeah um so i’m excited to see what they’re putting together to see if how it benefits the industry because i no doubt in my mind it will you know i’m interested in that they did the keynote speech um at the beginning and they had that guy that’s like the wordsmithing guy right the the you know that came out and kind of gave the difference between like from a political standpoint and also just from like how’s the industry received and i don’t want to be the guy to say it but i but as they make the transition from the word scrap or recycling you see where they’re going to recycled right cyclones yeah

i don’t want to be the guy to say we beat you to the punch but i feel like we’ve been caught i mean recycled idaho everybody yeah you know we’ve been saying that for three years now and we’re scrap guys like through and through like scrapping our blood like i love the word crap because it’s gritty and it’s tough and i think it’s gonna be a combination of you know recycled and scrap and so i’m kind of looking forward to it which like all blends into our nft project because we bought every recycled state that you can uh that was available which was yours which was 49 of them yeah so we got 49 and plus how many countries 40 40 something countries 45 i don’t have seven countries i mean everything you know and so back to the whole word recycled i mean if that’s the way the industry wants to go we’re ready we’re interested i’m not against it no when i heard that i was like okay i could get behind back we i feel like we we might have jumped the gun a little bit on that which is you

know it’s going to work out in our favor but networking man it’s it’s it’s huge it’s the way of the future and i think that’s what we’re so excited about networking technology things are shifting so quickly and a lot of people are already trying to adjust yeah continuing to adjust to this web 3.0 it’s going to be interesting you know everyone’s this week i’m talking about elon musk creating a new platform we’ll see if that really happens or not and that regardless if it does or doesn’t i don’t think they’ll completely destroy the other ones it’s hard to see but you just got to be able to evolve and move you can’t just dig your heels and be like no i’m sticking on facebook you got to move on to the tick tocks of the world and all the other trends and just find better new ways to communicate with your people i mean the reality of it is like tick tock didn’t kill youtube it’s just a different form of communication i mean instagram facebook youtube i mean my kids twitter i mean all about facebook there’s linkedin i mean there’s so

many i mean even if musk comes out with a whole other social platform that’s probably better because it just creates competition for each one of them to up their game and be better at what they do so i don’t see that as a as a bad thing and i really feel like like and we’ll start beating the drum pretty hard on our nft project because i feel like it’s you know scrapped and recycling and you know basically trying to get everybody to communicate and help each other because the thing about the keynote speaker and wordsmithing that deal is just as much about everybody being and on a saint this a similar page or the same page and saying hey we want to uh you know promote our industry but also like where we’re more grassroots like israel is interested in promoting the industry and i’m just as much or probably more interested in promoting the individual businesses and the individual people in our industry because that’s truly what makes the industry i mean it’s it’s all the small united metals recyclings and you name it abc recycling of the world that actually make the

industry knows the admiral medals exactly so many other the one that i’m in florida and justin trundu owns you know all those guys you know it’s those also it’s all the small and the medium-sized shops that are that make up the recycle lean scrap recycling we love telling those stories and that’s where like what we’re doing and versus what israel is just two completely different things israel’s helping with the legislation exactly which we’re doing a little bit of that locally but we can really lean on them to help us we’re like hey how do we do this you know we need to we want to be involved on this so these laws that get passed have the voice of a scrap yard so we don’t get you know grouped up with the pawn brokers you know we don’t get grouped with other people like that don’t that doesn’t make sense for our law so that’s where like i really found a lot of value because i met some contacts this weekend where they could help me when i do speak with the the lawyers building some laws new laws over here which i

support like i want to help make it make it work correctly you know for law enforcement and for us so um scrap is so i did i did those spotlights um for nickel aluminum um i did a converted theft and everyone was super positive with the where the market’s going to be the rest of the year that being said you know we’re seeing some down markets on palladium platinum’s getting beat up palladium was getting beat up in the last week which would keep beating the drum it’s going to go back to 28 maybe 3 000 and you know so you also have to keep this in mind with me and brett we sat down at the sports book at one point this this last week been all the wrong games i literally had a ticket and i made a joke i was like i should just bet the offices to get if i would have done that i would have won a thousand dollars you know but it didn’t so i lost a couple hundred bucks and it is what it is you know i was ready to lose it so um the key

is sell into strong markets yeah like you know that’s the biggest the biggest thing and you know we’re we’re we’re definitely there’s items that we’ve held on to um but there’s most everything else like we’re full speed ahead like every month and i still see five dollar copper i still probably see now i see copper’s still hanging in there though copper sideways today copper indices 471 somewhere they had low 70s yeah um so that’s great you know yeah i mean that’s great nickel aluminum everything else is hanging in it’s really just platinum palladium getting beat up and like the outlook for ferris everyone i talked to look that looks really strong april looks like it’s pretty strong another month you know i mean we still got a few days yeah it could change and really like we won’t know anything until i doubt we’ll know anything next medal monday i mean but we’ll start hearing you know hearing where people are closing here and where people are what are people across the nation are doing that’s what’s really cool about the networking and the camaraderie with other scrapyard owners scrapyard managers we can hear

like hey what what’s going on in indiana what’s going on you know in detroit yeah what’s going down in florida you know that’s where the networking’s important and it’s really nice and we can tell them like what we’re hearing too like oh you know it goes both ways you know and you know we’re in the pacific northwest so it doesn’t always translate like we got different markets over here you know so it’s different but where one goes up the other should go up maybe not as much in one market versus the other and that’s where it’s really been fun for me to connect with some of these people that without linkedin instagram i would have never met never exactly so more to come but uh stay tuned but for now finish out march strong because april’s coming like a freight train thanks everybody have a great day
