foreign we’re back to ground zero one of 52. how you doing Brett so kind of how the whole all of our businesses start right now back to zeros right it’s like kind of the fun thing to go okay regardless of what kind of year you have good year bad year in different year You’re Gonna Roll back to zeros and see uh I think so many people do like I’ve never been a huge New Year’s guy I never grew up really celebrating it or even thinking about it and I’m still kind of that way like it’s just another day to me but I do understand the relevance of like starting fresh regardless like you said if it’s if you had a killer year or a shitty year in 2022 well now we’re ready for a new year so yeah even like it’s like the same like philosophy like you can’t really rest on all the success you had a month ago because you got today’s a new day or you can beat yourself up out of failure yeah you can’t let those keep you down either so I do have respect for it yeah and
I’m not even a big New Year’s resolution guy but it is always nice to refine like if it’s in your personal life or business like what can we do better because I think everyone’s always trying to do better at least I hope they are and the new year really puts that to the Forefront so that’s what I do like about it so yeah I think the biggest thing for me man is I’m pretty like routine oriented so the holidays always kind of screw me up because they kind of screw up my routine yeah so it’s like it does give me a reason to say okay like what is the next year look like so I always I sit down I write out kind of I send it out to you guys yesterday I write out kind of what I see coming for the next year and just kind of my my opinion right um but it’s also like kind of like a time to I guess reflect on the previous year and and you know what you see upcoming but I don’t know that I love it like I I do it I understand
it I understand like the purpose behind it um as far as as far as like the new year and resolutions and everything that comes along with it um but I also think it’s just kind of like you could start your new year on February 1st if you want like go February 1 to February 1 and run it out I mean for the longest time our fiscal year ended August 30th or August 31st like so we really like you know as a company people would be trying to jam out at the end of the year trying to sell stuff make the book pretty up the books whatever this whatever that like we would just run the course of our business because our fiscal year didn’t even end until August 31st so it was like it didn’t really make a a bit of difference to us like now I can see why you know coming in at the end of the year from a you know just a straight math Revenue you know expense whatever standpoint like what does the a full year picture look like from January 1 to December 31 I get it but
I just figure like you should just make the changes as you see fit along the way and they’re not there’s probably a fair amount of people that could use the new years as a say in October yeah they’re like uh like I got I’ll make those changes in January you know so you use it as kind of a crutch too so it’s a like like most things in life you got to find that balance and you need to you should always be trying to do better so I was telling somebody earlier I was like like so how was your New Years and I was like pretty good man like I go I just hung out with my family and relaxed I go I didn’t even have a drink you know and and they’re like oh geez and I was like I go to be honest like I hadn’t had a couple I hadn’t had a drink a couple days before New Year’s because December was kind of like a long month like of customers and you know um just our team and get-togethers and parties and this and that and so it’s like
I almost needed like a you know to start a couple days ahead and just like give myself a few weeks of just kind of get ready to roll so then I’m you know when when as soon as you know the New Year hits or January hits or the after the holidays when you need to be able to like come out of the blocks pretty you know good and sprinting and ready to go I don’t know like I just look at my differently I guess but I’m I’m excited man I I love a new start of something and if this is it then let’s go all right so a new thing we’re doing yeah is I mean we’ve hinted at the last couple weeks we’re gonna do a q a um show just separate show ask us anything about scrap recycling Idaho whatever it is and we’ll give you our two cents we’re gonna have it on separate uh phone number where you could text it all of that in you can hit me or bred up on you know any Social account or phone numbers like whatever’s Avenue is easiest for you to get
to us and we’re hoping to do it weekly yeah so we’ll put out that phone number um we’ll put out a few posts so just keep your eyes peeled for that I’m excited to see how that looks so as far as the markets go it looks like the January Ferris markets are going to be up um I haven’t heard any numbers yet I know that my one of my contracts didn’t get canceled on my Ferris contract so I know that that’s a good sign for January um so the Market’s going to be up how much depending on the grade you know whether it’s shreddable or cut grade I I could see 10 to 20 bucks maybe I don’t know and we saw UPS in December we didn’t see that coming so you see ups and ups and two months in a row December was sideways ish for for a few items and then up on a couple but I ultimately like it’s a it’s definitely a flow thing there’s there’s not as much material out there as there there was at the beginning of the year last year we’ve had a pretty gnarly start
to the winter here cold snow ice there was 52 degrees last week or something yeah I mean it was so it’s been a weird it’s been a weird weird weird uh start to the winter but in general you can’t you can’t be mad about up money and when it comes to Ferris non-ferrous what do you see that’s tough I mean everybody’s calling for a strong copper here right so you know Copper’s off you know I just looked at it you know it’s four or five cents this morning it started out a little bit up um nickel screaming again which is a good thing I think it helps your stainless pricing and some of your alloy pricing um Palladium is getting crushed this morning today this afternoon again holding its own dreams rhodium is holding its own um and uh aluminum is down a little bit but then the stock market in general it was started out this morning kind of positive and it’s it’s going to end on a on a pretty sour note with a strong dollar and I think that’s is that why it’s doing this you know the dollar was
you know kind of sideways dished it was it was up slightly this morning and it’s kind of went on a tear so which that definitely has kind of pushed the market off um I think we’re still in a kind of interest rate dollar driven Market environment that’s going to drive the pricing so you know those are the big factors I see in this this month but generally speaking I’m not as um bah humbug as a lot of people out there are when it comes to 2023 I could be proven wrong but I feel like there’s going to be plenty of opportunity in 23 to capitalize if you’re willing to go out there and make it happen regardless if it is good or bad like I mean what’s the point of even fretting about it you know just go at it you know control what you can control man it’s cost control your costs yeah if it’s Revenue go find more Revenue if it’s you know whatever it is go find it figure it out and solve the your own riddle I’ve been through a couple you know down economies well I’ve worked with you
and we’ve always we’ve always made it through so I got no doubt good or bad we’re going to be fine I mean really our customers here in the Boise area they’re all still really busy so that’s a good sign too yeah um so I a lot of them like I asked them when I see them like what do you see oh we’re gonna be busy so I mean I just I kind of listened to my customers like and that’s locally so like Boise’s always been a little bit segregated from the rest of the country sometimes yeah no so I think Boise area is gonna be good but I would hope the rest of the country is going to be good too but yeah we are still a reflection of to a certain extent of what’s going on in the general like macro economy so we’ll we’ll see what happens but I’m I’m still optimistic all right well look for that text line welcome to the new year and we’re excited one of 52 let’s go thanks
