I view it as a true honor for a generational business to allow me to be a part of telling their story. All stories are worth telling, but some just hit a little closer to home for me which is why I wanted to start the Generational Courage segment of this podcast and newsletter to begin with.
While I do not have a brother in the business with me, I have two sons that I observe daily, their interactions, their similarities, their differences, and I often wonder what they would be like in business together. While I don’t pretend to know Michael and Matthew Rongey super well, after my conversation with the two of them and their father at the National Recycled Materials Association (ReMA) show in Las Vegas, I can begin to see how two brothers could find their way within in the same business and thrive together, while taking on different roles at Louisiana Scrap Metal Recycling.
I am sure there has been more than one disagreement, or difference in opinion of direction or idea, but that’s where a strong leader with experience steps in and helps guide the ship. Enter JOHN RONGEY, the dad and the patriarch of the once small family business that is slowly/or quickly (depending on who you ask I am sure) becoming a true juggernaut in the scrap metal recycling market in Louisiana, but more importantly the entire Gulf Coast.
I genuinely wanted to save this podcast for this newsletter, because it’s one of my favorites. Family business runs deep in the recycling industry and the Rongey’s are definitely part of that fraternity. Enjoy the podcast!
