Nick: Okay, Metal Monday! How you doing, Brett?

Brett: I’m good, man. We’re right in the thick of it—almost game time. The holidays are approaching quickly. The year feels like it’s winding down. Whatever’s been sold is sold, and now the production team is just working to get stuff out the door to finish the year strong.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know if I’ll have much scrap to sell for the rest of the year.

Brett: Well, I guess we better buy some, huh?

Nick: That’s the name of the game!

Brett: Exactly. Production guys have been crushing it these last few months, but this time of year, you know how it is. We talked about it leading into December—those last two weeks are just about getting through it. Between shipping and production, and with people taking time off, we really have to get on it in November and early December to set ourselves up to end the year on a positive note.

[1:35]
Nick: We’ve got just over two weeks left in the year. Two more Metal Mondays to go.

Brett: Yeah, two and a half weeks to hit your goal.

Nick: I felt like I was in the running for a bit, but now we’re back to 419.

Brett: You’re still within striking distance. We’ve seen it move before, and I think you’ve got a shot.

Nick: I’m not going to count my chickens until they’re hatched.

Brett: Fair. The team’s killing it—you’ve sold a ton of loads. It’s nice to get inventory almost down to zero, even though that’s nearly impossible in this business.

Nick: Yeah, it’s good to get that refresh. Shout out to the production guys, the drivers bringing new stuff in, and the hauling department getting it back out.

[2:32]
Brett: Absolutely. We talk about this internally a lot, though not as much on the podcast—it takes every single part of the team to make it work. Everyone plays a role, and I want all of our guys to know how important they are.

Nick: Agreed. Shout out to Buckon too, the guy who handles all our back-end commercial work—dispatch tickets, containers, and making sure everyone gets paid. He puts out a monthly report showing how many roll-off boxes, trailers, and bins we turned for each region.

Brett: That report is awesome. It really shows how much of a team effort this is. From the sales guy who buys the material to the dispatcher, the drivers, and the processing team—everyone plays a role.

Nick: It’s a straight-up team puzzle. My favorite part of that report is seeing how collaborative it all is. It’s not just one person—it takes everyone working together to make it happen.

[3:56]
Brett: Truly, if one piece of the puzzle doesn’t work, the whole thing falls apart. In this business, customer service is critical, but your ability to get material is just as important.

Nick: Yeah, you need the trucks, the bins, the roll-offs, the dispatch system, and everything organized. Without that, it’s hard to win in this industry.

[5:55]
Brett: What’s iron doing in January? Are we going to see some relief?

Nick: January might be tough, but we’ll see what happens as the new administration comes in. People are feeling like there’s a chance for positive changes, but it’s all just hope until we see actual action—changes that make people feel comfortable buying houses, equipment, or doing infrastructure work.

Brett: Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding.

Nick: Exactly. 2025 would be nice to see some up months in the ferrous market. I feel like we’ve got a better chance now than we would have otherwise.

Brett: January is coming like a freight train, and I think 2025 will be better than 2024 from a pricing standpoint.

Nick: Bring it on!

[7:19]
Nick: Thanks, Brett. Have a great day!
